Touched Out Mom. I just need a minute.

Babies are hard.

Babies are really, really hard.

Now on baby #3, the crying and sleeplessness haven’t really been so bad. I suppose I’m nearly immune to crying and whining at this point, and I haven’t slept in 5 years anyway.

Nope, crying and lack of sleep isn’t what has really been hard for me this go around. This time, it’s the need for constant touching. Don’t get me wrong, for most of the day I am completely content to blissfully nurse (thanks to a handy dandy nipple shield) my new baby, snuggle with my older daughters, and bask in the physical sensation of motherhood.

Most of the time it’s really all totally fine.

But there are times when I JUST. NEED. A. MINUTE.

A minute to be alone.

A minute to be a single human being.

A minute to not be touched at all.

So, to all the other moms out there who are just a bit touched out, it’s okay. It’s okay to not want to be touched. It’s okay to say no to your partner. It’s okay to ask for some space, literally.

It’s even okay to pop your crying baby safely into a swing, crank that lullaby music up, and go in the other room with a glass of wine for 5 minutes of beautiful aloneness. I promise the baby will be fine (crazy, I know), and you’ll feel better for it.

This is so true! Motherhood is exhausting and being touched all day can send you over the edge at times! A good reminder to just take a minute.
